The Child Care Alliance of NYC was founded by child care owners and operators who believe the people responsible for delivering care every day should have a meaningful voice in shaping the future of our industry.
New York City’s child care system depends on thousands of community-based organizations and independent providers. These organizations employ educators, serve families, operate businesses, navigate complex regulations, and partner with government to deliver essential services across the five boroughs.
Yet too often, decisions affecting our industry are made without sufficient input from the providers responsible for implementing them.
We came together to change that.
Our Mission
The Child Care Alliance of NYC brings together child care owners and operators to advocate for a stronger, more sustainable child care system while providing members with the resources, information, and relationships they need to succeed.
We work to ensure that providers have a seat at the table when policies, regulations, contracts, and funding decisions affecting our industry are developed.
What We Do
Our work is centered around three areas:
Advocate
We represent the interests of child care providers and engage with elected officials, government agencies, regulators, and other stakeholders on the policies that shape our industry.
Inform
We work to become a trusted source for regulatory updates, policy developments, industry information, and practical guidance—giving providers one place to turn for the information they need.
Connect
We bring providers together to exchange ideas, share experiences, access trusted resources, and develop solutions to challenges facing our industry.
Our Approach
We believe meaningful change requires engagement, not simply opposition.
The Alliance seeks to build productive relationships with government agencies, elected officials, advocates, educators, families, and other stakeholders while bringing the operational experience of child care providers directly into the policymaking process.
We support strong standards that protect children and promote quality. We also believe those standards must be practical, evidence-based, appropriately funded, and informed by the realities of operating child care programs in New York City.
Our Track Record
The Child Care Alliance of NYC may be a new organization, but its founding members bring years of experience advocating for New York City’s child care community—and that advocacy has already produced meaningful results.
Expanding Access to Bridge Financing
Our founding members successfully advocated to expand access to City-supported bridge financing for child care providers. Programs that had previously been available only to nonprofit organizations were expanded to include eligible for-profit providers, helping more programs access critical working capital while awaiting government payments.
Modernizing Article 47
Our members helped advocate for the first meaningful updates to key Article 47 requirements in years. These changes included more practical teacher qualification pathways for programs serving two-year-old children, helping address the disconnect between regulatory requirements and the realities of New York City’s early childhood workforce.
Making Reform Work for Existing Children
When implementation of the Article 47 changes created unintended limitations for children and programs already beginning the school year, our members continued working with government partners to address the issue. That advocacy helped further update the changes so that they could apply to eligible children who had already started their programs in September.
These accomplishments demonstrate the approach at the heart of the Alliance: identify a problem, bring providers together, engage the right decision-makers, and work toward practical solutions.
